In 1991, Cindy Oyen found she had fallen into a new career. Literally. After years of working for the family business and training champion horses, Oyen needed a new challenge. A family friend enrolled her in realty classes, and after a bit of persuasion she accepted the proposal. Eighteen years later, Oyen still loves her job.
Oyen, a Midwestern lady with big-city taste, is the best Sioux Falls has to offer. Serving the city of Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities, she has made her name commonplace in the realty market. Her dedication to the job and her passion for helping people realize their dreams motivates her every day.
“You have to love what you do to be a realtor,” said Oyen. And she does. Looking at her business card one can see she is dedicated: she has four certifications and is working on a fifth. When asked which are needed to be a realtor, she replied, “None.” Of the four, the most important is Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). This is the highest designation awarded to sales associates in residential sales and one that only 20% of all realtors have obtained. The others, Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), and Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) are also tell tale signs of her knowledge and passion for the business.
“I’m committed to providing a high level of professional service to my clients. I love helping someone and seeing the end result: their happiness,” said Oyen. Her clients agree: she is the best Sioux Falls has to offer. In fact, through her clients’ nominations and support Oyen was awarded the Key Realtor Peoples Choice for Customer Service, and out of 650 realtors, that’s quite an accomplishment.
John Stratman agrees that Oyen is the finest in the area. “I got excited about Cindy because she goes above and beyond what you would expect from a realtor. We had a pretty unique experience when we moved. The day we moved into our new house, my wife fell down the stairs and broke her wrist, hand and ankle. We ended up in the hospital for hours that night and she had a pretty lengthy surgery. While I was sitting there, who shows up but Cindy and her husband, Mike. It just blew me away that they drove through a blizzard to come sit with us. When you work with Cindy, you realize just how much she redefines professionalism,” said Stratman.

In addition to her outstanding professional service, Oyen believes in always learning, and to do so she travels each year to a realty convention that others in the area are unlikely to attend. She’s an innovator and believes that getting a different perspective is the best way to progress and grow.
“It’s not just the job that motivates me. It’s the amount of knowledge I gain every day and the number of friends I’ve made along the way,” said Oyen. “Real estate gave me a challenge. I’m always looking for the next best thing and try to be one step ahead,” she added.
Oyen said she’s never dreamt of a better place to live and work than Sioux Falls. “When you grow-up and live in the Midwest, you tend to stay in the Midwest,” she said. With low crime rates and home prices significantly lower than most areas of the country, Sioux Falls is an ideal place to reside. People from across the country have moved to Sioux Falls by way of Oyen, and many have remained loyal clients for years after their first meeting.
With referrals and references from many satisfied clients, Oyen attributes her eighteen years of success in real estate to her ability to listen and communicate, her excellent follow- through, and most importantly, her hard work.
“ It’s not just the job that motivates me.
